TxDOT to Host Public
Meeting for FM 1641 Expansion

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will hold a public meeting on the proposed widening of FM 1641 from FM 548 to FM 148 and FM 548 from FM 1641 to US 80. The hearing will be held on July 11 at the Community Life Church, 204 FM 1641.

The FM 1641 reconstruction project includes widening approximately 0.2 miles of FM 548 and approximately 5.4 miles of FM 1641. The existing FM 548 is a 4-lane urban roadway, and  the existing FM 1641 is a rural 2-lane roadway. Both roadways would be reconstructed to an urban 4-lane (ultimate 6-lane) section with turn lanes.
The maps showing the project design and location, tentative construction schedules, and other information regarding the project are available online at under the ‘Upcoming Public Hearing/Meeting’ tab.

City Unveils Capital
Improvement Program Project Map

Several weeks ago, the City revealed its new Community Development map. Today, we are happy to unveil our newest map, the Capital Improvements Program Project Map, or CIP Map, which will provide residents with an in-depth look at all the construction projects in the City.  The map will not only provide an image, information and location of the project, but also when necessary will include milestone dates, such as design completion, construction start and end and project cost. In some cases, projects areas will be marked with a “TBD”, this is because the City is either waiting for more information or construction has yet to start for example. Just like the previous Development Map, this map will be updated regularly with project information. To view the map, please visit

Yard Prep

Prep Your Yard for Spring

Are you landscaping your yard, but not exactly sure where to start? In partnership with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office, Water University has a wonderful tool that will allow residents to search a plant database to search for the specific type of plant, tree, or shrub. The tool will allow residents to search within a number of parameters including, if the plant is Texas native, light and water requirements, character, type of plant, wildlife value, color and much more.  Before you plan your garden, check out the plant database tool at

Solicitors Must Have Permits

As we move closer to spring, residents may experience an increase in door-to-door sales associates. If you do encounter a solicitor at your door, they are REQUIRED to have a permit from the City of Forney. These permits are required because they allow the City to perform background checks on applicants, which then allows the City to approve or deny the permit request. Not only are solicitors required to carry the permit on them at all times, they are also restricted to go door-to-door from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Residents who wish to have no interaction with solicitors are asked to display “No Solicitation Allowed” or “No Peddlers Allowed” sign that can be easily visible. If you suspect that a person in your neighborhood is soliciting without a permit, please call the Forney Police Department at 972.564.7600.

To the Rescue!

The old adage came true on the morning of May 23, as A-Shift from Central rescued a kitten from a tree! The story began on May 22 in Community Park, when a parks employee heard a kitten high atop a tree near the bend at Holly Leaf and Main St. The parks employee called Animal Control and the Fire Department, who at the time both agreed the kitten would come down when it was ready too. The next morning on the 23rd, our Fire Chief Townsend, Police Chief Sherwin, A-Shift from Central Station and Animal Control, were all on hand to help get the kitten down! We are excited to say that it is in good hands with our Animal Control Department and hope to find it a home shortly!

City to Begin Proactively
Spraying Measures for Mosquitoes

The City of Forney began to proactively spray for mosquitoes on April 29. Spraying will continue on dates listed below, between the hours of 8:30 p.m. and 6 a.m. The water soluble spray that is used to fog for the mosquitoes, will not harm animals. • Bring your pets inside for the night and bring in or cover any outdoor pet dishes
  • Cover ornamental ponds and birdbaths.
  • Do not go outside during spray time.
  • Keep windows and doors closed during spraying.

Project Tracker

TxDOT Project
Tracker Helps Residents Projects

Did you know that the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has a project tracker online that has information on more than 11,000 TxDOT projects. Several roads that go through the City are controlled by the state, including FM 548, 1641, 740, 741 and Highway 80. Residents can view projects by highway, project ID, TxDOT District and even by County. Each project is given a project summary that provides a description of the project, where the project is located, estimated construction cost, estimated completion date and the timely project update. This is a great resource to use when you have a question about a certain project, for instance the roadwork currently being performed on FM 1641. To check out the project tracker, please visit
