Raises Approved For City Employees

On February 23rd, Forney City Council approved mid-year increases for city employees including police and fire department personnel.

Police Chief Mica Lunt, Fire Chief Derek Briggs, The Forney Police Officers Association, and the Forney Professional Firefighters Association prepared the following statement in response to the Forney City Council’s Decision:

On behalf of the men and women of the Forney Police and Fire departments, including both sworn and civilian public safety professionals, we appreciate the action taken tonight regarding the compensation of City of Forney employees. The reinstatement of the step plans, the five percent salary increase for all employees not on a step plan, the five percent one-time payment for those employees at the top of their current pay scale, and the two and one-half percent payment for all employees to cover the first half of Fiscal Year 2020-2021 represents a commitment to compensate employees fairly. We appreciate the difficult decisions faced by all of you to plan for the budgetary health of the City of Forney, and we recognize that the actions taken earlier this year were based upon the unknown effects the COVID-19 pandemic would have on the financial health of the City. With now knowing the status of sales and property tax revenues for this fiscal year, we appreciate your commitment to reasonably compensate all city employees. We look forward to continuing to work with you to ensure that compensation and benefits are fair and represent a shared commitment to recruit, retain, and support the best public safety professionals and city employees possible. Thank you for your support.

Pipe

Leak Adjustment Form

During the winter event we encouraged citizens to turn off their water in the event of a major leak. Now that the weather has improved, we urge that residents contact us when needing assistance with their water meter since the water meter is City property and damage or tampering could have financial consequences. You can contact Utility Billing at 972.564.7304 or 972.564.7600 for after-hour support.

If you were adversely affected with a burst pipe causing water loss during the recent freeze, you may be eligible for a leak credit with proof of repair. Please contact the Utility Billing Office or see the website for the leak adjustment request form.

Public Works Update

Hard at Work

Along with our police and fire departments, our public works department stayed hard at work during the winter storm. They worked extremely hard to ensure roads were more drivable and addressed water issues around the city.

Plus, when dispatch contacted the fire department about setting up an aeromedical landing zone for CareFlite at The Baylor Scott and White Emergency Center of Forney, our public works department quickly cleared off the landing pad.

Orienteering

Orienteering?

We are excited to announce that the City now has THREE orienteering courses at Community Park! What is orienteering? Well, orienteering is the sport of navigation, using a highly detailed map and compass, and can be competitively timed. The three-course layout in Community Park was constructed as an Eagle Scout project by Hunter Kasper of Troop 339. Information on all three courses, including control points, maps and answer keys, can all be found online. For more information about the courses, please visit https://www.forneytx.gov/945/Orienteering-Course

Water Rescue

Water Rescue

FORNEY, TX – On 2/27/2021 at approximately 3:49PM Forney Police and Fire personnel were dispatched to a water rescue emergency at the location of US Hwy 80 at the Trinity River Bridges. A man had called 911 stating he had fallen into the water. He was holding on to a root system and needed help. Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, Kaufman County Pct 2 Constables Office, and CareFlite EMS personnel responded as well.
Forney Police Officer Laramie Kennedy and a private citizen named Daniel Washburn were able to locate the man who was approximately 125 feet south of US Hwy 80 in the Trinity River. Mr. Washburn got into the water and help stabilize the victim until public safety personnel arrived. A coordinated rescue mission between Forney Fire and Police was developed, which included placing a PFD on the victim, Fire Engine Companies deploying rescue rope, and Officer Kennedy getting to the victim and Mr. Washburn, who were then pulled up a 12-foot bank by the public safety team.
The elderly victim had been in an accident when his truck flooded. In an attempt to get to safety, he fell into the river and was swept away to the south. He was able to grab onto the root system of a tree to prevent from being carried further down river.
The Forney Police Department would like to commend Officer Kennedy, Mr. Washburn and our partners with the Forney Fire Department, Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, Kaufman County Pct 2 Constables Office, and CareFlite EMS for their efforts in saving this man’s life.
