WEATHER & POWER INFO:

Today will be very cold, but there will not be any precipitation until tonight and overnight. The next, and final round of storms will come tonight and overnight. We will not get to temperatures above freezing until Friday afternoon.

We have no updated information regarding the power situation other than the overall grid is still in a crisis situation with several power plants offline and unable to keep up with demand. We posted yesterday a press release from ONCOR with additional details.

The North Texas Municipal Water District has notified the city that during this time, it would be best for residents to curtail their water usage in the event that their facilities lose power. Please continue to drip your faucets to keep pipes from freezing, however try to conserve water in other ways if possible.

You may contact the Forney Emergency Operations Center at 9725647636. Please call Forney Public Safety Dispatch at 9725647600 for non-emergency regular police, fire, and EMS calls for service and 911 for emergencies.

FAQs

1. Why do I not have water?

During these extreme cold events, an unfortunate side effect is frozen water lines. Although it is possible for pipes inside your house to freeze, typically the line will freeze in the yard where the line is more exposed to the elements. If you lose water to just one area of your house or if you just lose the hot or cold water and still have the other, then your frozen pipes are probably inside and could potentially be unthawed if given heat.

This is easier said than done as we are also having to deal with power issues statewide. However, if you suddenly lose water to the entire house then most likely your yard line has frozen. If this applies to you then unfortunately there is nothing we can do but hope for warm enough weather to thaw out the lines.

We ask that you look for signs of water or flowing water as these are issues we can assist with. If you see what you believe is a leak then please give us a call so that we can stop the flow of water as soon as possible to help prevent more ice from forming on our roadways than we already have and are expected to get in the days to come.

Public works can be reached at 972.564.7340. For after-hours emergencies, please contact Police Dispatch at 972.564.7600.

2. Why is my power out?

There are two major issues affecting power outages: winter storm outages and controlled power outages directed by ERCOT, which serve to reduce high demand and protect the integrity of the electric grid.

3. How long will I be without power?

Given the combination of lack of generation and historic winter storm damage, estimated restoration times are not yet known. For outages related to the winter storm, crews continue working around the clock to restore power. However, continued winter impacts such as extreme cold, treacherous road conditions and ice buildup are impacting progress.

4. When will trash/recycling services resume?

Community Waste Disposal has suspended garbage collection services through Wednesday, February 17 with the likelihood of services being impacted even longer. CWD is working to formulate a recovery plan and we will make sure to pass that information along as soon as we receive it.

5. Is Forney under a boil water notice?

As of now, the North Texas Municipal Water District which services the City of Forney (city limits), has not issued a boil water notice.
