General Election Information

City elections are held every May. In odd numbered years, Places 2, 4, and 6 and the Mayor positions are up for election. In even numbered years, Places 1, 3 and 5 positions are up for election. The City Charter, Article V (PDF) sets out the provisions for filing for office.

November 3, 2020 General and Special Election

The City of Forney's General Election was postponed due to the pandemic and will now be held in conjunction with the November 3, 2020 General Election. Places 1, 3 and 5 are up for election. Places 1 and 3 are unopposed and Place 5 has two candidates (Derald Cooper and DeCarlo Coleman).

Additionally, there will be amendments to our City Charter on the ballot for a Special Election. These amendments are intended to update the wording of the Charter that was approved in 1997 and has not been updated since. The ballot itself will include the National offices, State offices, County offices and the City of Forney offices and Charter amendments, in that order.
