General Election Information

City elections are held every May. In odd numbered years, Places 2, 4, and 6 and the Mayor positions are up for election. In even numbered years, Places 1, 3 and 5 positions are up for election. The City Charter, Article V (PDF) sets out the provisions for filing for office.  City Council members are elected for staggered 2-year terms.                                                                                                                   

Place Numbers

While the City Council is elected by place number, the number is for candidacy purposes only and each member represents the entire population of Forney.                         

May 1, 2021 General Election

The City of Forney's General Election will be held on May 1, 2021. Places 2, 4 and 6 and the Mayor are up for election.  Click on the following link for a copy of the Application for a Place on the Ballot.  The first day to file the Application for a Place on the Ballot is January 13, 2021 and the last day to file is February 12, 2021 (before 5:00 p.m.).  Applications can be filed in person, by mail, by fax (972-564-7349), or by email (to dbrooks@forneytx.gov).  The Texas Ethics Commission requires that a candidate file a Campaign Treasurer Appointment when they file their Application for a Place on the Ballot.

Important Dates

  • The last day to register to vote is April 1, 2021.
  • Early Voting starts on April 19, 2021 and ends on April 27, 2021.
  • Election Day is Saturday, May 1, 2021.
