During the May 18^th meeting, the City of Forney welcomed three new members to the Forney City Council. Congratulations Mayor Amanda Lewis, Council Member Sarah Salgado, and Council Member Jason Roberson!

City Hires Director of Economic Development

After a diligent interview process, the City of Forney and the Forney Economic Development Corporation are excited to announce the hiring of Lynn Spencer as the Director of Economic Development. Spencer will be leaving her position as Economic Development Project and Program Manager at the Falcon Field Airport of Mesa, Arizona and is expected to join the City of Forney on June 14, 2021.

Spencer is a graduate of California State University, Chico, where she obtained a Bachelor’s in Geography with a focus on Urban Economic Development. Before working in Arizona, Spencer spent most of her career in Texas. Some of her previous roles were CEO/President and Executive Director at the San Patricio Economic Development Corporation and Vice President of Government Affairs and Business Development at The Goodman Corporation in Houston, Texas.

“Mrs. Spencer’s extensive experience in economic development in the private and public sectors makes her extremely qualified for the unique opportunities associated with the City of Forney. I am confident that she will be an exceptional Director of Economic Development for the Forney Economic Development Corporation,” stated Interim City Manager Charles Daniels.

“I look forward to being part of the new leadership team that will be moving Forney forward. There is tremendous growth coming in this direction and I am very excited to lead the economic development team as we embrace the economic opportunities that are before us. My family is thrilled to be returning home to Texas and we appreciate being welcomed into the Forney family,” Spencer stated.

Accepting Applications for City Council

On Friday, May 21, 2021, Council Member Shaun Myers resigned from the City Council, which creates a vacancy for Place 2. The City Charter requires that any vacancy on the Council caused by resignation be filled within thirty days, for the unexpired term only, and shall be by a majority vote of the remaining Council members, and provided the successor shall possess all qualifications for the position.

Those qualifications are:
(a)Shall be at least eighteen years of age.
(b)Shall be a qualified voter (live within the city limits and be a registered voter).
(c)Shall have resided within the corporate limits of the City, or recently annexed territory, for at least twelve months prior to the date of appointment.

Independence Day Celebration

The City of Forney is hosting its FREE annual Independence Day Celebration at Forney Community Park! Come enjoy an evening full of food, fun, and fireworks! We will have several local food vendors offering a variety of cuisines. Plus, there will be bounce houses and games. Cap off the night with a remarkable firework show!

The splash pad at Community Park is open for the summer! Operating hours from 10am to 8pm daily.

Mobile Blood Drive

Carter BloodCare will be hosting a mobile blood drive at the Forney Police Department on Tuesday, June 8th.

Outdoor Burning PSA

Forney Fire Marshal John Holcomb and Kaufman County Fire Marshal Randy Richards took some to discuss some important tips regarding outdoor burning.

Controlled burns are NOT allowed within the city limits of Forney. Residents can have brush collected on regular trash pickup days. For more information visit https://communitywastedisposal.com/find-my-city/forney/

While outdoor burning is allowed in unincorporated portions of Kaufman County, we urge residents to contact dispatch before burning so our public safety professional can differentiate controlled burns and emergencies.
